Creative hub plan served up
Restaurant premises in the centre of Stirling could be turned into a recording studio and production space.
Stuart Cameron has submitted an application to Stirling Council planners seeking a change of use at the former White Ivy Club at 7 Viewfield Place off Barnton Street.
The proposal - described as‘O Club’also includes creating office space and a restaurant with outside terrace.
The recording studio/production space would be on the first floor and the restaurant area on the ground and lower flowers, with the office also on the first floor.
In documents submitted with the application, agents for the developer said:“‘O’is a new concept, a hybrid of commercial and social space for professionals and freelancers within the creative and affiliated industries, based initially in the heart of Stirling.
“Its directors have a long, successful background in the film production, marketing, creative and design industries and have recognised that professionals working across the creative sector are not well served by the current working/commercial space offers.
“‘O’recognises that while much of the detailed work required by professionals in the creative sector is increasingly completed at home (or indeed on location), they still enjoy, often need, but currently miss the energy, social interaction and creativity of a vibrant work/meeting space.
“‘O’has therefore been created to support professionals across the creative industry through the provision of just such a space.
“The vision is for it to become the natural home for creative spirits seeking out company, inspiration and innovation. The mission is to deliver a venue designed for individuals and teams from across the creative spectrum (their happy and interactive work and social space) that encourages and supports creative thought, productivity, networking and success.”
In terms of the plans for the building the ground floor would feature an entrance and reception, leading into a large open-plan seated area with low tables and comfortable seats, supported by table service. There would be a small external terrace.
The lower ground floor would have a similar function to the ground floor “with more of a minimalist style”and incorporating two mini Zoom rooms for private meetings. There would be a small external terrace and availability for private events.
On the first floor a small independent production facility would be operated by partner business Portfolio Films ltd (POFI) and there would be three post-production desks, a multifunction meeting room/production office, studio and sound booth.
Operational hours have been suggested as Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 7.30pm with weekend opening and evening hours to be “considered in line with member requirements”.
Council planners are expected to make a recommendation on the application in due course.
