Bracklinn Falls bridge removal has begun

-

A replacement bridge at a popular Stirling district beauty spot is expected to be in place by the end of next year.

Work to remove the existing bridge at the Bracklinn Falls near Callander started this week.

The bridge over the Keltie Water has been closed to walkers since May this year.

An examination of the structure was carried out and a replacement considered necessary for safety reasons.

Alternative walking routes have been recommended during the work.

A Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Authority spokesperson said this week that it is anticipated the new structure will be in place by the end of 2022.

The process to design and approve the new bridge will get underway in the first half of next year and will require planning approval.

Head of Loch Lomond and

Trossachs National Park Authority visitor services Kenny Auld said this week:“The process to remove and replace the Bracklinn Bridge in Callander is now underway, with contractors on site this week to begin taking down the existing bridge.

“This follows specialist engineering and timber surveys, which identified areas of deterioration and advised that replacing the current structure would be the safest course of action.

“The work to remove the bridge is likely to last until January and we are advising residents and visitors to avoid the site until it is complete.

“Suggestions for alternative walks in the Callander area and elsewhere in the National Park can be found in the‘things to do’ section of our website.

“We plan to have a new Bracklinn Bridge in place in 2022.”
