GEAR UP FOR IBROX BINOS

- DAVID OGILVIE

The popular Killearn 10k race will return for the first time since 2019 when runners line up next summer.

The next edition of the event is set for Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11am.

Entries will open online at 8pm on Thursday, December 9.

A spokesperson for the event this week said:“We’re absolutely thrilled to be planning next year’s race and we’re confident it will be the best in our history.

“We’re very much looking forward to welcoming runners old and new to the village.”

Organisers are hoping for a full turnout for a race that caters for elite level athletes, beginners and everyone in between.

The course is one of the most scenic in Scotland and the event has a well-earned reputation for friendliness.

All runners get an exclusive

It’s back to league business for Stirling Albion tomorrow after the excitement of being paired with Rangers in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

The Binos have a huge match at Ibrox to look forward to on the weekend of January 22 after being rewarded with a money-spinning tie for beating Tranent Juniors 4-0 last weekend.

Dylan Mackin (2), Jack Leitch and Jordan McGregor got the goals as Albion secured a comfortable win to take their place in the last 32 for the first time in five years. Back then Stirling were paired with Clyde in round four and lost in a replay but this time it’s a game against the cinch Premiership leaders, who now have Giovanni van Bronckhorst in charge.

The immediate focus for Kevin Rutkiewicz’s side is ending a run of three straight league defeats when they take on Cowdenbeath. Stirling are third in the cinch League 2 table but are only three points in front of sixth-placed Stenhousemuir after going five games without a win.

Albion saw off the Blue Brazil 4-0 at Forthbank at the end of September and Cowdenbeath are now seven points adrift of Elgin technical top and a medal, and there are excellent prizes in a range of categories.

The committee are working on improvements for next year which they hope will make the event even better for runners and spectators.

As well as the 10k, the popular Killearn Mile will return.

Entries for the 10k will open at 8pm on December 9 at www. entrycentral.com/killearn10k.

and Cowdenbeath had good spells in the game at 2-0 before we got two goals on the break at the end.

“I keep saying this, but we need to be at our best in this league. We need to get into a groove again and a lot of that comes from continuity of selection and that has been a problem for us recently with injuries.

“We have been unfortunate in that respect and most of them have been impact injuries.

“We were off it against Stenhousemuir and paid the price and against Albion Rovers we lacked a bit of quality. Against Edinburgh a fortnight ago I felt we were the better team and were unlucky to lose. I think that performance was the beginning of the redemption and Tranent was hopefully another step in the right direction.”

Defenders Paul McLean and Martin McNiff will both miss tomorrow’s game due to injury. Midfielder Rabin Omar (hip) and striker Dylan Bikey (hamstring) are also sidelined and Ray Grant is suspended. Dale Carrick will be available after sitting out the Tranent tie due to illness.

Albion Lotto: Numbers drawn on December 1 for week 67 of the Stirling Albion Supporters Trust lottery were 3, 12, 23 and 30. There were no jackpot winners so next week’s jackpot is £1,770. Three lucky dip winners each receive £20. They are: C Smith, E Marshall, C Rowley.
