Cafe scoops up prestigious awards
A popular family-run Strathyre cafe has scooped two top awards at the Scottish Food Awards.
The Broch Cafe claimed the Cafe/Bistro of theYear for the Central Region as well as the Overall Cafe/Bistro of theYear for Scotland.
The past 18 months have been difficult for the hospitality sector, which has suffered its own unique challenges.
William Lindsay, from the Broch Cafe, said:“The food shortages on supermarket shelves including fresh fruit and vegetables, the hunt for toilet rolls, restaurants and cafes closed, restrictions on travel and outdoor activities, working from home, all things new to us. Strange times indeed.
“Even when restrictions were relaxed we had face masks, social distancing, one-way systems and contact tracing to contend with.
“However, every challenge invites a solution and Team Broch developed their own all within the guidelines set by the authorities.
“When lockdown ended at the end of April we reopened unsure of what we would face in the season ahead. People were initially nervous of being back in a social environment surrounded by others. Our location and outdoor space gave us the opportunity to promote al fresco dining in a safe and confident manner and we were delighted to see customers new and old returning again and again.”
He added:“To win the award for Cafe/ Bistro of theYear for the Central Region in the Food Awards Scotland was a great honour and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to support and vote for us.”
Members of staff from the cafe were on hand at the award ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow last week to collect the award.
William added:“We couldn’t have dreamed of a better end to the season and are excited about the prospects for the year ahead.”
