Services veteran had five sons in Army
A Stirling services veteran had the proud record of having all of his five sons serving in the Army.
Ordnance Stores worker Michael Collins, Spittal Street, had been a sergeant in the Argyll and Sutherland
Highlanders during World War One.
His five sons were: Pte Thomas Collins, who at the time was 40 and serving in France with the Argylls. He was also a veteran of WW1 having joined up at the age of 18; Pte Michael
Collins, 38, with the Royal Engineers in France. He entered the Army shortly after the outbreak of WW2; Sapper George Collins, 26, Royal Engineers, who had been a soldier since he was 15; L/Cpl Martin Collins who was with 51st
Highland Division Signals in France and had been a Territorial before WW2 and Pte John Collins, 19, with the 9th Highland Divisional Signals and also in the Territorials before the outbreak of war.
