Hendrie is the hero for Milton in derby

-

Milton 2-1 Doune Castle

A goal 10 minutes from time earned a well deserved three points for Milton after a spirited fight back against neighbours Doune Castle.

Milton had the ball in the net after only five minutes but the referee disallowed it for an apparent offside decision and they had another attempt shortly after when Callum Hendrie’s header went narrowly past the post.

Doune went on the counter attack and keepr Ronan Fallens came to Milton’s rescue with a tremendous save but he was helpless when Doune opened the scoring after they failed to clear their lines and he was beaten with a lob by Christopher Macdonald.

Mcdonald went close for Milton but Callum Davison saved well for Doune.

For Milton, Zarebski sent in a cross but Preston sent the ball over when at the other end, Fallens made another tremendous save to prevent Doune doubling their lead.

In the second half started Milton took the game to their opponents and started to dominate possession. Hendrie had a goalbound shot touched over and Mcdonald then went on a solo run but was halted at the last second.

They finally got the goal they deserved when Ogilvie sent in a brilliant cross and Hendrie headed the ball past the keeper.

Milton piled on the pressure but had to be vigilant of the Doune breakaways which were always dangerous and Fallens again thwarted the visitors with another fine save.

But with 10 minutes left, Johnston fired in a cross which Hendrie once again met with his head and he bulleted the ball past the keeper for the winning goal.

On Saturday Milton are at home to East Kilbride in the quarter final of the Douglas Smith League Cup, kick off 2pm.

Rovers kept up their challenge for the Caledonian League First Division title on track with a narrow victory but the scoreline does not reflect their absolute control throughout the match.

Sandro Deluca’s first-half strike was reward for the visitors’dominance as Rothesay struggled to threaten the Rovers rearguard.

On Saturday the Rovers are at home to Dunblane Soccer Academy in the league with a 2pm kick off at Mill Road Park.
