RugbyForce is with pupils at Bannockburn festival

-

More than 250 pupils from seven primary schools enjoyed a rugby festival at Bannockburn Rugby Club as part of the Royal Bank Rugbyforce Young Ambassador programme last week.

The session was organised by Bannockburn player and Royal Bank Rugbyforce Young Ambassador David Grainey in partnership with Scottish Rugby and aimed to inspire the next generation of grassroots rugby players following this year’s Six Nations Tournament.

In a drive to improve diversity and help Scotland’s local clubs to become more sustainable for the future, Royal Bank’s Rugbyforce programme awarded David with a £500 grant to fund the festival, while also providing him with the training and skills needed to promote Bannockburn RFC.

Primary six and seven children from East Plean, Cowie, St Margaret’s, Bannockburn, St Marys, Braehead and Borestone took part in the festival.

David said: “Encouraging the next generation of rugby players through initiatives like this is so important to ensuring the future of the sport is as bright as the past. By getting a host of school children along for a rugby festival, we’ve hopefully helped to engage them in the game from a young age – creating Bannockburn’s next generation of players.

“From funding to training, being a part of Royal Bank’s Young Ambassador programme has allowed me to support local young talent to develop their own skills and abilities.”

Applications for funding and Young Ambassador nominations are open now and can be made via the Royal Bank Rugbyforce website at: www. scottishrugby.org/clubs-and-schools/ support-for-clubs/rugbyforce
