ABERFOYLE WALK IN THE PARK

PARISH CHURCH

Service on Sunday will be at the usual time of 11.15am when a warm welcome will be extended to all. Acovid regulation­s have been updated with social distancing no longer required and it is no longer a legal requiremen­t to wear a face covering in church. However infection rates are still high and a minority remain vulnerable despite the vaccinatio­ns, so for the benefit of all it might be beneficial to wear a face mask which can be removed for singing. A personal choice and one where it is hoped people would use their common sense.

The walk tomorrow (Saturday) leaves Gargunnock Parish Church at 10am.

ST MARY’S SCOTTISH EPISCOPAL CHURCH

CONCERT

The next concert in St Mary’s Church will be at 3pm on Sunday, April 10, given by Stewart Kempster, bass, Katherine Wren, viola, David Martin, viola, and Kevin Duggan, organ. They will be performing Passiontid­e music by JS Bach, Cesar Franck, Rebecca Clarke, as well as Sprituals and Irish folk songs. As always, entrance is by voluntary donation, and the concert will last an hour. Tickets may be booked in advance via aberfoylec­oncerts@gmail.com.

On Sunday at 11.15am the service will be taken by Mrs Margaret Baxter. Tea/ coffee will be served after the service. It is recommende­d that a lateral flow test is taken before coming which must show a negative result and bring a mask. This also applies any person attending the church buildings. Holy Week Services - Palm Sunday (April 10) at 11.15am led by Rev Scott Brown. Monday, April 11 at 7pm led by Mr Brown. Maundy Thursday (April 14) at 7pm, Sacrament of Holy Communion led by Mr Brown. Good Friday (April 15) at 7pm in Gartmore Church led by Mr Brown. Easter Sunday (April 17) at 9am, Open Air Service at Gartmore Playing Field led by Mr Brown. Filled rolls will be served to those who have booked at the Black Bull. At 11.15am there will be a joint service at Buchlyvie led by Mr Brown. On April 13 the Wednesday Group will meet in the Session Room of Buchlyvie Church.

WI NEWS

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 12 in the village hall at 7.30pm when guest is Ambreen Rasool. The theme of the evening is “The women who shaped me” and the competitio­n will be a photograph of a European landmark (Mary Mcgregor Trophy). All welcome.

CALLANDER CALLANDER KIRK

Worship every Sunday at 11.15am led by Rev Jeff Mccormick. Everyone is welcome to join (subject to Covid restrictio­ns). BOWLING CLUB

The official opening of the green takes place tomorrow (Saturday) at 1.30pm for a 2pm start. Membership fees are £65, new members half price and juniors free. The Monday open rink nights start on April 11 at 6.30pm. For anyone wishing to try bowls, there are spare bowls for use. Please wear flat soled shoes on the green. The club wishes all fellow bowlers in the region the best of luck for the coming season, and hope to enjoy your company as the competitio­ns are all re-instated following the two year break. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 14 at 2pm in the Winnock Hotel. There will be a talk by local girl Melanie Woods,on her journ ey from her initial accident which resulted in her becoming a wheelchair user towards her representi­ng Great Britain at the Tokyo Paralympic­s last year. Everyone welcome to come along for what promises to be a very interestin­g talk. As usual tea and coffee and biscuits will be available and there will be a raffle.

SENIOR CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATIO­N

LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY

The final meeting of Drymen Local History Society this session will take place on Thursday, April 28 in the village hall. Cheese and wine will be served from 7.15pm, followed by contributi­ons by members. John Carruthers will speak about the filming at Buchanan Castle for the Abandoned Engineerin­g TV programme, Peter Smith will demonstrat­e the LIDAR system (Light detection and ranging), which can be used to create 3D representa­tions of the earth’s surface or ocean bottom, and Robert Livingston­e will discuss the Barnwell Brothers from Balfron and Scottish aviation history. A brief AGM will follow the talks.

KILLEARN KIRK

On Palm Sunday, at 10.30am the Rev Stuart Sharp assisted by Ruth Kennedy, Probatione­r Minister, begins the services leading up to Easter with the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. This leads on to worship during Holy Week when all are invited to joint services beginning on Wednesday, April 13 in Strathblan­e Church when Mr Sharp and Ruth Kennedy will lead the praise followed by Rev Murdo Campbell who will celebrate Maundy Thursday in Killearn Kirk on April 14. On Good Friday (April 15) Mr Sharp will take the service in Buchanan Church. The three services all begin at 7.30pm. Hand sanitising and face coverings will be observed. The Killearn Kirk Coffee Morning will be held in the Kirk Halls tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am to noon.

KIPPEN CHURCH

It is planned that Rev Ellen Larson

Davidson will lead the service in Kippen Church this Sunday at 11.15am. Please take a lateral flow test before attending church. It is not now a legal requiremen­t to wear a mask during the service, but it is still recommende­d. Updates of interest can always be found on Facebook ‘Kippen and Norrieston Parish Churches of Scotland’. Access also via Google. In accordance with Church of Scotland advice, in the meantime the church will be closed and alarmed every day, including weekends.

HOLY WEEK SERVICES

On Maundy Thursday (April 14), there will be a Communion Service in Kippen Church at 7pm. On Good Friday (April 15) there will be a joint service in Norrieston Church, Thornhill, at 7pm.

BIBLE STUDY

A Lenten study using “Not a Tame Lion by Hilary Brand” looking at the writings of CS Lewis and movies based on his books and life will be held on Wednesdays at 10am. Ellen has a few copies of the study book and the DVDS of “Shadowland­s” and “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” which can be borrowed. If interested in joining, please contact Ellen to get link.

LENTEN WALKS

The sixth of the Lenten Walks will begin from Gargunnock Church, Manse Brae, FK8 3BQ at 10am tomorrow (Saturday). Car parking s available at new cemetery and Manse Brae. Tea/coffee and wrapped biscuits will be provided in the Ross Anderson Rroom near the church entrance gate at the end of the walk. On Saturday, April 16, Rev Dr Lesley Stanley will lead a walk from the Pathfoot Building in the grounds of Stirling University. Car parking is available at the Pathfoot Building. On entering the University grounds, turn immediatel­y left and first left again.

PORT OF MENTEITH CHURCH
