Community council member was left upset by chairman’s statement

-

Dear Editor

With reference to the letter in the Stirling Observer (April 6) from Hugh Mcclung MBE, which he signed as Chair, Braehead, Broomridge Community Council.

I was horrified to see the letter from the chair of the community council, of which I was a member, that I knew nothing about and that had not been discussed at the community council meeting on Monday, March 28.

By signing as the chair my support was implied in this written attack. The letter referenced, amongst other items, two councillors nonattendance when the chair and the CC members had been advised they would not be attending because of the inappropriate behaviour in previous meetings.

On Wednesday evening I asked the chair to retract his letter, he refused stating that as chair he had the right to make representations on behalf of the community. I disagree. I am part of the community, he was not speaking for me. I resigned from the community council on Thursday morning.

I understand the right to make your views known but to do so in a manner that causes others upset and hurt is in my opinion unacceptable.

I cannot speak for Councillors Kane and Laurie but I know that Hugh Mcclung’s letter caused me hurt and upset.
