GOLF BRIDGE OF ALLAN

While it is still early days in the new season, this weekend saw good participat­ion numbers on both Friday and Saturday as those not silly enough to play through the winter started to get back on to the course.

Friday’s senior Stableford competitio­n saw some of the winter stalwarts continuing their good form with John Docherty just pipping Ron Griffiths to top spot by way of a countback after both returned 20 Stableford points. Roberto Zanelli also continued his fine recent form in third place with 19 points.

Saturday saw the first of 12 monthly medals and was also the first round of the Spring Shield. This was played over two divisions and Simon Lyall top scored in the first division returning a net strokeplay score of 64.

Stuart Mclachlan and Keith Bath both returned net 69s to finish second and third respective­ly.

Division 2 saw James Gore taking top spot with a net score of 63 and put himself in overall lead for the Spring Shield when the second round is played in a few weeks time. Tony Jackson and Rhys Park also finished second and third with scores of 66 each with Tony finishing ahead on the countback.

King James IV (Stableford) played on April 8 and 9: Winner – James Todd.

Division One - 1 G Wilson Snr (10) 42; 2 D Herron (9) 40; 3 L Haldane (4) 39 better last six. Division Two - 1 J Todd (12) 43; 2 D Fowler (15) 40 better inward half; 3 J Yuill (11) 40. Division Three - 1 K Wilson (17) 39 bih; 2 G Oxburgh (26) 39; 3 C Jones (17) 38 bih.

Scratch Sweep - 1 G Mclellan 38 bih; 2 D Kernohan 38; 3 L Wilson 36.

STIRLING LADIES

A tri-am competitio­n was held on Tuesday, April 5. The winning team was Susan Macleod, Anne Mackenzie and Anne Rankin with a net 70. On Saturday, April 9 the Ladies Saturday Stableford results were - 1 Janet Brown 31 points, 2 Frances Mcmillan 31; 3 Mary Mccaig 30.

STIRLING JUNIORS

On Sunday, Stirling Juniors were on the course playing in their own Green Jacket tournament.

Adam Smith won the scratch prize - and the coveted Green Jacket - for a second year in a row with Callum Gardner winning the net prize.

An Academy Course Masters was also held. Winner was Michael Oates who won with a score of 19 over the six academy holes. Afterwards the juniors took part in a drive, chip and putt contest with their scores put forward to Scottish Golf’s national skills challenge.

DUNBLANE NEW

Despite a cold wind, the dry, sunny weather drew a big field for the RNLI Trophy at the weekend.

Winner of the trophy on 66 and better inward half, thanks to birdie twos at 11 and 14, than Kenny Gibson (11) was Russell Stewart (12). Best scratch score was a four over par 73 from Myles Wilson with birdies at 4 and 18, bogeys at 10 and 13 and double bogeys at 6 and 11.

Kenny Gibson (11) won the First Class on 66 highlighte­d by birdies at 4 and 9. Runner up was Jim Walker (10) on 67. Three players then returned 68 but third spot went to Anthony Stanger (7) with a better last six than Joe Clark (6) who had BL6 than Gordon Foster (11).

Second Class was won by Andrew

Mcgregor (12) on 67 finishing with a birdie at 18. Second place went to Farquhar Maclean (14) on 68 and BL6 than Gavin Curlett (12). John Barr (13) took fourth place on 69 and BIH than Ben Clark (14).

Stuart Reid (18) won the Third Class on 67 and BIH than Michael Cruickshan­k (21). Three players then returned 69 but third place went to Frank Ellis (18) with BIH than Allan Ross (24) but had BIH than Rod Mccreath (21).

The weather on Wednesday morning severely restricted the entries to the Stableford competitio­n.

Winner with 40 points was Steven Murphy (8) with birdies at 13 and 18. Runner up was Mike Dalton (18) on 39 points. Three players then returned 38 points but third spot went to Alec Wilson (16) with BIH than David Brodie (24) who in turn had BIH than Robert Turner (17).

Today (Wednesday) there will be the Monthly Multi Tee Midweek Medal. At the weekend is the first qualifying round of the Old Club Trophy and also the first round of the Handicap Stroke Play Championsh­ip.
