Meander willboost fundsfor Maggie’s

Maggie’s Forth Valley is looking forward to one of their biggest local annual fundraisers next month.

Meander to Maggie’s, taking place on Friday May 27, is a 10k walk which sets off from the Kelpies in Falkirk and goes all the way to the Maggie’s centre in the grounds of Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert.

Once back at the centre there is a free barbeque, free drinks and a DJ.

The event is free to register with a £150 individual sponsorship target. Visit Eventbrite at https://bit. ly/meandertomaggies and once registration is complete, participants will be sent a free Maggie’s T-shirt to wear on the night as well as a link to set up their own Justgiving page.

Last year the event raised £20,000 for the centre.

Centre fundraising manager Cristina Pouso said: “We are very excited to bring back our Meander to Maggie’s. It’s a magnificent meander from the Kelpies all the way to the Maggie’s centre. We are so lucky to have a free BBQ again from our friends at the Rapid Relief Team, a free bar and a DJ providing the tunes.”

Those taking part arrive at the Kelpies for 4.30pm. A fitness instructor will do a 10 minute warm up from 4.45pm and then the meander will start prompt at 5pm.

Participants will be put into groups and have their own group walk leader to lead the meander back to Maggie’s.

Since Maggie’s opened their first centre in 1996, the charity has developed a programme of support that is proven to help people with cancer and their loved ones take back control.

Maggie’s Forth Valley relies on voluntary donations to be able to offer this professional support. Since the start of the pandemic Maggie’s has been supporting people with cancer by phone, email and digitally. The centre is now open to see people by appointment and drop in.
