Castle storm to win over derby rivals
DOUNE CASTLE .................................. 4 CAMBUSBARRON ROVERS .............. 0
Doune stormed to an emphatic derby win over Cambusbarron Rovers with an outstanding team performance.
Resolute in defence and clinical in attack, the Castle merited their margin of victory.
They swept into a 1-0 lead after only three minutes. Robbie Hurst curled an inviting free kick to the near post and Niall Mcclure powered home unchallenged with a header from four yards.
Cambusbarron responded strongly and enjoyed a sustained spell of pressure. They tested the Doune defence with a series of demanding crosses into the box, including several dangerous corners but Tam Nelson and Ryan Duncanson were commanding defending their area, ably supported by full backs David Gillespie and David Innes.
Cambusbarron’s best opportunity came after 24 minutes when a glancing header slipped inches past Callum Davison’s left-hand post with the Castle keeper scampering to cover.
Doune probably just deserved their slender 1-0 interval advantage but Rovers started the second half very much on the front foot. After 49 minutes, Tam Nelson came to Doune’s rescue with an instinctive goal-line clearance.
Castle edged further ahead after 53 minutes. Alan Inglis gained possession and shielded the ball from his marker before turning quickly to steer the ball into the left hand corner from 12 yards for 2-0.
On 55 minutes, Jamie Bone tried to dink the ball over the advancing Calum Gray but the keeper did well to get a touch to deny a certain goal. Cambusbarron then spurned a decent opportunity after 61 minutes when
Alan More sent his effort from 12 yards over the bar.
After 67 minutes, Lukasz Duszynski made it 3-0 with a truly magnificent goal. Hurst’s challenge saw the ball rise high into the air some 30 yards from goal. With his back to goal, Duszynski reached the ball first, swivelled and hooked an unstoppable, first-time volley that simply flew high into the top left-hand corner of the net.
Castle sealed their win after 80 minutes. Hurst curled a corner from the left to the back post. Nelson headed the ball back across to Andy Innes and he calmly directed a strong downward header into the net from 8 yards to make it 4-0.
It was Doune who came closest in the dying moments of the game, Callum Smith’s raking volley from 14 yards flashing narrowly over from another good ball from Hurst.
