Man (48) dies at top of Ben Ledi
A man tragically died after becoming ill at the summit of a mountain near Callander during the bank holiday weekend.
The 48-year-old was pronounced dead at the top of Ben Ledi on Saturday afternoon following a desperate rescue mission to save him.
Police were called to the location shortly after 2pm on Saturday and enlisted the assistance of Killin Mountain Rescue Team (Killin MRT) due to the location of the man.
Killin MRT dispatched 12 volunteers to assist. One of the team members accompanied the Coastguard helicopter to the summit of the peak.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said:“officers received reports of a man having taken unwell on Ben Ledi near Callander around 2.10pm on Saturday, April 16, 2022.
“Emergency services, including the Killin Mountain Rescue Team, attended and a 48-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
On Sunday, the team were called out once again, following reports that a man had become ill at Callander Crags at around 12.45pm.
The volunteer rescue team once again dispatched 12 volunteers to the popular beauty spot due to the terrain.
The air ambulance was dispatched and landed around 100 yards from where the man was. Volunteers then accompanied paramedics to the man and he was subsequently transferred to hospital for treatment.
The two call-outs were the team’s 14th of the year so far.

“No one goes out into our mountains and wild places thinking they will need our help. As mountain rescue volunteers we willingly give our time to help those in need.
