First half show is enough for Milton win

Westerlands 3-4 Milton

Milton opened up their President’s Cup campaign with a 4-3 win at Westerlands on Saturday.

Hendrie opened the scoring after only a minute played from a direct free kick after Johnston was brought down on the edge of the box and Mcdonald headed home a second after a terrific cross from Stewart.

The home team called keerp Fallens into action shortly afterwards while at the other end, the Westerlands keeper parried an effort by Stewart after he was set up by Zarebski.

Morgan then broke up a Westerlands passing move in midfield and sent a great pass to Mcdonald who unselfishly squared the ball to Hendrie to make it 3-0.

Just before the break Fallens made another great save then immediately fired the ball up to Zarebski who took one touch before hammering the ball into the net.

Milton lost their way in the second half and with Westerlands having nothing to lose, they came back strongly and with 25 minutes to go they pulled a goal back,

Johnston had a great chance to make it five but his effort was blocked and poor defending contributed to a second goal for the home team.

Preston had a chance to finish the tie but put the ball the wrong side of the post and with 10 minutes to go, Fallens was beaten with a deflected shot but time ran out on the home side.

Last Wednesday, they kept up their promotion hopes with a 5-3 victory over Callander Thistle, goals coming from Hendrie (3) Gardiner and Mcdonald,

Tonight (Wednesday) Milton are at home to Cambusbarron Rovers and on Saturday are at home to Rhu .
