Candidates put case for your vote

Campaigning is underway across Stirling district in advance of next month’s election to decide who forms the next council. A total of 56 candidates will run in the May 5 poll.

The SNP are standing 14 candidates, Conservatives 11, Labour and the Liberal Democrats seven each, and the Greens five. There are also four Independents, one Alba candidate and the Scottish Family Party have a candidate standing in each ward in the Stirling Council area.

Stirling Council comprises 23 elected members across seven wards. There will be eight candidates standing in Ward Six (Stirling East) and six in Ward Seven (Bannockburn) – with three councillors elected to each ward.

Following the election of 2017 the ruling administration was formed through a coalition between the SNP and Labour, who had eight and four councillors respectively. The Conservatives formed the opposition with nine councillors – later cut to eight when one became Independent.

Before the election, each candidate will have the opportunity to put their case to the electorate in the pages of the Stirling Observer. Today, the final 16 candidates standing in Stirling East and Bannockburn have their say.
