Nourishing enterprise flair in pupils
Pupils from across the Forth Valley area are taking part in a Young Enterprise Scotland initiative.
This summer 84 pupils from schools across Forth Valley and West Lothian will have set up and run their own business as part of Young Enterprise Scotland’s Company Programme.
They have been learning skills in financial planning, manufacturing processes, service delivery and sales and marketing for the Young Person’s Guarantee which includes local enterprise as a destination for young people leaving school.
Partnerships manager at Youth Enterprise, based at Rouken Glen in Glasgow, Lynn Kelly, said: “Including enterprise as a positive destination within the YPG not only recognises the need to provide a route into self-employment and running a business for ambitious young people, but also the value of nurturing entrepreneurial skills in schools as critical to making Scotland an enterprise nation.
“I will be leading a short-life working group to develop an action plan with the primary aim of making enterprise programmes easily accessible to the widest possible group of young people.
“I want to share the journeys of young people currently on an enterprise programme with all the key stakeholders including teachers, the Developing the Young Workforce coordinators in schools right through to youth employability services - and through that combined experience embed the right practices across the education and careers network.
“Throughout May and June, we are taking a first step with a series of YE Scotland hosted debates on the future of enterprise education within the newly formed Regional Improvement Collaboratives.
“Post pandemic, enterprise education and enterprise skills have been at the forefront of recovery, not only for the wider economy but also for building the resilience of young people.”
