Good prices bring boost for breeders
Local breeders were a force to be reckoned with at United Auctions’ Stirling Bull Sales this month with their bulls going to new homes in Ayrshire, Fife, Islay, Lanark and Stranraer.
Achieving success in the overall champion titles in the Salers and Limousin pre-sale shows, Stirlingshire breeders also attracted leading prices under the hammer.
The two-day event from Scotland’s leading livestock auctioneers, was held at Stirling Agricultural Centre on Sunday and Monday (May 1-2) with 294 pedigree bulls and females forward for show and sale.
The Stirling Bull Sales is supported by Galbraith, Scotland’s leading independent property consultancy. This year they are celebrating ten years since the National Farm Sales Centre opened at the Stirling Agricultural Centre.
John Roberts, group sales director for United Auctions, said: “The May Stirling Bull Sales saw most averages up on the year and a good number of strong clearances for a total of 125 bulls sold. Buyers were attracted to the live sales at the Stirling Agricultural Centre from all over the UK to put their trust in the market system.
“It was also great to see such success achieved by local breeders of Salers and Limousin breeds with their hard work recognised in both the championships and sale rings with high prices.”
