Plant day sprouts back after a gap

-

Braehead Community Garden will host its first plant sale since 2019 on Saturday, May 14, from 10am-2pm.

Gardeners from across Stirling will have the opportunity to get a head start on their fruit and vegetable growing with a large variety of plants on offer.

Visitors can choose between from a selection of flowers, annuals, perennials and hanging baskets.

Vegetable plants on sale will include broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbages, lettuce (multiple types), kohlrabi, tomatoes, beetroot, turnips, leeks, cucumber, courgettes and sweetcorn.

Run entirely by volunteers, the team have grown everything from seeds planted at the start of the year in the garden’s giant polytunnels.

All money raised will be used to help run the two and a half acre site on Broom Road, just two minutes drive from the city centre.

Garden volunteer Alistair Kerr said:“the polytunnels are fantastic for bringing on seedlings and whether you’re looking for a broccoli plant or a tomato plant, we’ll have a huge selection of fruit and vegetables for sale. We’ve also grown a variety of perennials and decorative plants for sale.

“With prices much keener than you’ll find at supermarkets and garden centres, and to help a community project into the bargain, I hope gardeners come along and support our annual sale.

“Visitors to the sale will also be able to take a tour of the garden and learn about all of the different elements of this project, including the beehives and hen-run. Raised beds are also available to hire at the project from just £30 per year.”

The community garden can be found at Broom Road, Stirling, FK7 7GU.
