Platformer won’t leave you feeling flat

- Flat Kingdom

Various

Flat Kingdom builds on the rock-paper-scissors principle, allowing your character to morph into different shapes to overcome enemies and obstacles which stand in the way of your quest to save the realm.

So, your slow but strong square form will beat anything triangular and fragile but will fail against a soft and squidgy circular foe.

The instantly graspable premise permeates the whole game, with geometric patterns hinting at the way to approach each problem often subtly blended into the environment or the physical form of an adversary.

This type of thoughtful platforming is hardly in short supply on consoles but it’s done with real style here, both visually and in the variety and volume of cleverly constructed conundrums packed into this vibrant world.

Also out this week is Evil Dead: The Game on PS4, PS5, XBOX ONE, XBOX S/X and PC.

It’s been 17 years since the last time Ash Williams and Co had their own video game.

This latest offering, from Saber Interactive, is inspired by all three original Evil Dead films, and finds Ash fighting between our world and that of the Deadites.

Play as a team of four survivors, exploring, looting, managing your fear, and finding key items to complete your objective, or — if you’d rather go solo – play alone in single player mode.

With multiple maps to tackle, it features 25 unlockable weapons — including Ash’s famous chainsaw.
