Big Jock breaks cycling record
After weeks of‘knocking at the door’, the Observer reported in May 1969 that Jock Ritchie of Central Scotland Wheelers, had broken the 60-minute barrier for a 25-mile time trial.
Riding in the Strathclyde Cycling Club 25-mile time trial on the Cumbernauld Course ,‘Big Jock’shattered a top-class field of riders to clock 58 minutes and 16 seconds.
He won the race and set a personal best.
