Community effort has transformed playpark
Work to refurbish a children’s playpark in Killin has been completed on the first anniversary of an appeal being launched to raise funds for the ambitious project.
On May 6 last year, a community fundraising page was started with the aim of raising £1000 to help refurbish Breadalbane Park in the village.
The target was quickly smashed and the community then decided that they would like to purchase a piece of equipment. By October that same year, the community had raised £4,000 towards the project.
Fiona Boath who helped to organise the project, said : “The choice was made to purchase a basket swing. Discussions then began with Stirling Council and Killin & Ardeonaig Development Trust (KAT). Caledonia Play installed the basket swing in mid-april 2022.
“Stirling Council undertook some muchneeded refurbishment of the play area. The removal of an old and decaying fence made way for a banking slide to be installed. The Scottish Government refurbishment fund enabled the replacement of the nearly 30-year-old sand tower with a similar new model. The seesaw which had been removed due to its poor condition was also replaced with a new model. This all at a cost of nearly £25,000.
She added:“these works were all completed by the first anniversary of Breadalbane Playpark appeal being launched.”
