Among the communities organising celebrations between June 2-5 for the occasion is Killearn.

The village will be holding a jubilee beacon lighting ceremony on Thursday June 2 and a Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday June 5.

More than 1,500 Platinum Jubilee beacons will be lit throughout the UK and beyond, including the one in Killearn.

But before that in the local village hall, there will be a Seven Decades of Royal Service display by Killearn Primary School.

During the evening there will be a free quiz for children and a slightly tougher quiz for adults (entry fee) with funds raised going to the DEC Appeal for Ukraine.

Local eateries Turnip the Beet and The Kitchen Window will be offering tasty delights outside, and stalls of local organisations and beyond will be set up in the village.

The culmination of the evening is at twilight with the Beacon being lit. Villagers are inviting people to join them from 7.30pm-10pm at the village hall and the Glebe field.

Killearn Community Futures Company meanwhile is encouraging locally organised lunches or teas by signposting guidance to help every street organise their own Big Jubilee Lunch celebration, including designing Killearn Big Jubilee Lunch invitations.

For those living on remote farms or houses meanwhile for whom organised celebrations might be more challenging, the Kirk and the Village Hall will have bookable tables in their grounds, so everyone can take the chance to celebrate, on Sunday 5 June from 1pm.
