Jailed after driving while banned

A Gargunnock man with a history of driving while banned was this week jailed for eight months for the crime.

Stirling Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that 25-year-old Kieran Elliott’s record already contained 10 previous road traffic offences, the majority of which were driving while disqualified.

He had admitted driving while disqualified at locations in Gargunnock and Tullibody in August last year.

He had driven while disqualified in Gargunnock’s Mcneil Crescent on August 13 and without insurance there.

Elliott had further pleaded guilty to two charges of driving while disqualified in Redlands Road, Tullibody, on August 14, and one charge of driving without insurance there.

In a separate complaint Elliott pleaded guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner towards his former partner at an address in Stirling between September 19 and 22 last year.

Not guilty pleas to charges of stealing his sister’s car at Mcneil Crescent; a further charge of driving without insurance on Redlands Road, Tullibody; obtaining two cars by fraud; obtaining £130 by fraud, as well as stealing a jacket, a purse and its contents, and money belonging to his sister, were all accepted by the Crown.

Noting Elliott’s record – which contained 10 previous road traffic convictions the majority being driving while disqualified - Sheriff Keith O’mahony told him there was no alternative to a custodial sentence.

He disqualified Elliott from driving for four years and jailed him for eight months.

Elliott’s licence was endorsed and he was admonished on the charges of driving without insurance.

He was also admonished on the charge of threatening his former partner.
