IT’S CRUNCH TIME FOR CLIMATE ACTION
Young people in Callander have been taking the message that it’s crunch time for the environment literally in a bid to tackle climate change.
Children from Callander Primary School along with 9th Callander Scout group - which includes Cubs, Beavers and Scouts - and the local community, have been collecting empty crisp packets for recycling with Terracycle.
Together they have gathered in a whopping 36kg of the packets which have now been sent back to be separated by plastic type, cleaned and extruded into plastic pellets to make new recycled products.
A donation from Terracycle will also be sent to Killin Mountain Rescue thanks to everyone’s efforts.
Dawn Haldane, of local business Feeds and Stoves and The Eco Den, which was a drop-off point for the packets, said:“we would like to thank Evelyn Tweed MSP and newly-elected councillor Gene Maxwell for their support, and also Colin Campbell and Adam Basset from 9th Callander Scout group with beavers Emry Campbell and James Bassett, cub Kalel Campbell and Scout Katie Niven.”
A spokesperson for the Scouts and Beavers said:“the Scouts have a history of community involvement.
“We were looking for a way where we group to learn about recycling while making an impact.”
