A Fallin man who embezzled more than £3000 from a village convenience store was this week ordered to pay back the sum in compensation.

Andrew Stewart, of Stirling Road, had been given a Community Payback Order for the offence last October.

It had comprised 12 months’ supervision, 200 hours’unpaid work and £3390 in compensation.

Twenty-four-year-old Stewart had originally been charged with embezzling £4490 from One Stop Shop in Stirling Road, Fallin, between January 19 and February 6, 2020. However, his not guilty plea to an amended charge was accepted by the Crown.

When Stewart appeared at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday he admitted breaching the Community Payback Order.

His agent Frazer Mccready told Sheriff Keith O’mahony that his client had engaged well with elements of supervision and had completed the unpaid work, but he had not paid anything back towards the £3390.

Mr Mccready however pointed out that Stewart was now working and regularly being paid £300 per week.

Stewart lived with his parents, giving them between £50 to £100 per week, and was willing to pay back the £3390 at a rate of £50 per week.

Sheriff O’mahony revoked the Community Payback Order and imposed a compensation order for £3390 payable at a rate of £50 per week.
