Platinum Jubilee parties and fun planned

Communitie­s and groups are gearing up for days of celebratio­ns for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Among the areas organising their own get-togethers is Riverside.

On Saturday, June 4, a host of activities are taking place including a free family fun day and market in Waverly Park from noon until 4pm with outdoor games, fun activities with Riverside Naturally, and stalls from local businesses and food vendors.

There will be come and try sessions from Stirling County Rugby Club and Riverside Lawn Bowling Club plus a special visit from the Fire Service.

Griff’s Gaff Disco starts up from 4-9pm at Abbey Road market, with a line up of

DJS playing an electric mix of disco and house music plus Abbey Road’s food and drink.

There is also live music during the day at Riverside Lawn Bowling Club from noon until 6pm with local musicians playing live sessions and dancers from multiple genres throughout the day.

The club is also the venue for a ticketed ceilidh and disco from 7-11pm when Riverside Ceilidh Band will be performing a selection of traditiona­l Scottish music before a DJ takes over for dancing until closing time.

The aftermath hasn’t been forgotten, however. Keep Riverside Beautiful will be out and about from 10am on Sunday June 5 for a stroll around Riverside while picking up any stray bits of litter - with tea and cake at the Abbey Road Market to finish the celebratio­ns.

Among the private celebratio­ns taking place over the weekend will be for the residents of Craighall Court in Raploch.

Sandra Mcgregor said:“vulnerable residents being supported have not been able to go to any events or have get together activities for three years due to Covid restrictio­ns.

“One resident asked staff if we could organised a get together party where everyone could get involved with celebratin­g the Queen’s Jubilee by having a buffet meal and decorating outside to honour the jubilee.

“Everyone is looking forward to being part of the celebratio­n.”

Alloa First meanwhile is holding a Jubilee Market on Friday, June 3 in Alloa High Street, from 10am until 3pm.

Alloa First is the town centre BID for Alloa and holds a Friday market every months, with the next one a Jubilee special. There will be lots of stalls selling arts, crafts, food, gifts and more.

A student-only celebratio­n is taking place at Stirling University on Friday, June 3 from 3-5pm.

More than 1,500 Platinum Jubilee beacons will be lit throughout the UK and beyond on the evening of June 2, including one expected at Stirling Castle.
