Green light for outdoor eating

-

A revamped outdoor eating and drinking area at a hotel in Dunblane has received conditional planning permission.

Stirling Council planners have backed an application by Punch Taverns at The Dunblane Hotel at 10 Stirling Road.

The proposals include a cantilevered raised deck with a glass balustrade and formation of bi-fold doors to the rear of the building, and erection of a stretched tent, decorative lighting and fencing within the outside eating and drinking area, formation of an enclosed bin store and a new entrance door.

One representation was made by a member of the public raising concerns that the raised deck would negatively impact residential amenity. They said the area proposed was immediately next to a residential garden space and the deck would likely cause noise and disruption, particularly given several bedrooms faced onto the garden.

However, in their decision, council planners said:“a condition is attached to this approval restricting the use of the outside drinking and dining areas to which this permission relates, to no later than 11pm, by which time all food and drink shall be consumed indoors.

“Anti-social noise is a matter to be reported to Environmental Health and can also be reported to the police.”

The planners added:“it is considered that, subject to inserted conditions, the proposals will positively contribute to the quality of the surrounding built environment, and the character and setting of the main building. The additional rear and side outside eating and drinking areas do not adversely impact upon the building’s character and setting and can be considered to enhance the side and rear areas of this building, which is currently run down and in need of work.

“The formalisation of the car park as an outdoor serving area, alongside the other proposed changes to the site including the formation of a bin storage area, does not restrict vehicular access for the sites servicing requirements, which it is understood will be met via existing arrangements.”
