Glamping pods plan for land near village

- KAIYA MARJORIBANKS

New glamping pods could be created in Buchlyvie.

Kit and Lindsey Taylor have submitted an application to Stirling Council planners for four of the pods on land 540 metres north east of Ballochneck Country House.

The proposal also includes a permeable parking/turning area, recycling/waste and cycle storage area, footpaths and landscaping.

All pods are to be manufactured off-site with the frame kits and finished off on site by the site operator.

In documents submitted with the application, agents for the couple said: “The plot is situated near the village of Buchlyvie, located just off the A811. The plot is accessible via both the A811 and the B835.

“The proposed glamping site will provide subtle and discreet countryside accommodation for tourists visiting this area’s attractions on short breaks and weekend stays.

“Existing accommodation in the area mostly consists of holiday cottages and B&B’S. Offering a more unique experience is thought to attract a larger variety of clients to the area. The new business will create potential job opportunities to service the units.

“The location allows guests to walk into the nearby village of Buchlyvie for supplies and to support the local businesses in this village.

“The vast majority of the site will be left as open green space. The four guest pods will be well spaced approximately 37m apart in distance to give each visitor a good amount of privacy, for social distancing, and to control the carry of sound.

“The existing B835 road will be the access route to reach the glamping site area. From here guests will travel around 737metres along an existing unnamed track, before arriving at a new proposed entrance to the site and parking/turning area.

“From here guests will follow new permeable paths leading towards their accommodation.

“The concept of luxury glamping is now gaining popularity throughout the UK, with standards and guests’ expectations on the rise. At the moment, there is little presence in the immediate area offering this kind of luxury pod accommodation giving guests exclusive facilities. The only other ‘glamping style’ site nearby is the Trossachs Holiday Park which consists of touring and camping facilities.

“The pods would be rented out on a per-nightly basis. Patrons would likely be couples, or friends split into multiple pods. Party groups will not be permitted by the operator.”
