Green light for archery range plan

-

Scouts are set to enjoy a new activity at a centre near Callander.

Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park planners have approved an application by Stirling and Trossachs District Scout Councilfor a change of use of overgrown land to form an archery range at Invertrossachs Scout Activity Centre.

The site, on Invertrossachs Estate, was formerly a stone quarry and is directly adjacent to the activity centre along Invertrossachs Road.

In their decision, Park planners said:“the proposal is to change the use of the unused land to form an archery range as an additional activity for scouts visiting the centre. This change of use will involve ground works to level the ground, decking, installation of tarets, storage shed for the equipmkent and erection of a post and wire fence around the archery range.

“The formation of the archery range is of an appropriate scale to be sympathetic to the surrounding landscape as well as encouraging a positive sense of place in that the proposed change of use is directly in line with the adjacent Scouts Activity Centre. The archery range would be an improved expansion of the existing facilities on offer. As such the principle of the proposal is supported.

“When viewed against the backdrop of the surrounding area the landscape impact would not be significant and the location is practical in terms of location and access from the existing Scout Activity Centre and the other activities on offer.

“The proposal was discussed with the National Park’s trees and woodlands adviser who has advised mitigation methods to ensure the careful management of the tree works. There will be minimal visual impact.”
