Comfortabl­e victory for County West keeps them in contention for Scottish Championsh­ip qualificat­ion

HAMILTON TROPHY

County West bowlers’fine form continued on Saturday when they recorded a third successive victory in the Hamilton Trophy.

At Kirn and Hunter’s Quay green in Dunoon they defeated Argyll and Bute by 13 shots to remain in contention for qualificat­ion in their section.

With three Scottish Counties championsh­ip matches remaining, West are now one of a four-team leading pack on six points vying for the two qualifying spots.

On Saturday County finished with four undefeated rinks. Kevan Frogley won25-14 v D Baker; Willie Black won 25-20 v C Dickson and Gary Malcolmson won 19-16 v Stevie Scott.

Elsewhere Pat Martin peeled 14-14 with C Goffin; David Ferguson lost 19-17 to A Mccrae while Sandy Deans lost 21-17 to A Scott. Totals: Stirling County West 117-104 Argyll and Bute.

County are at Troon on Saturday v Ayrshire.

Winners of Saturday’s President’s Pairs were Andrew Mcgrow and Sandy Kerr while runners up were Eddie Mcmenemy and David Ross.
