Celebrate Platinum Jubilee

Festivitie­s for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee are continuing around the area this weekend.

Today (Friday) Balfron is hosting Picnic in the Park from noon until 3pm with children dressing up in royal costumes, a DJ, cake and entertainm­ent.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Riverside in Stirling will be buzzing with activity including a free family fun day and market in Waverly Park from noon until 4pm with outdoor games, fun activities with Riverside Naturally, and stalls from local businesses and food vendors.

There will be come and try sessions from Stirling County Rugby Club and Riverside Lawn Bowling Club plus a special visit from the Fire Service.

Griff’s Gaff Disco starts up from 4-9pm at Abbey Road market, with a line up of DJS playing an electric mix of disco and house music plus Abbey Road’s food and drink. There is also live music during the day at Riverside Lawn Bowling Club from noon until 6pm with local musicians playing live sessions and dancers from multiple genres throughout the day.

In Buchlyvie members of Buchlyvie Hall Committee and Children and Old Folks Committee have joined forces to organise the Crazy Olympics at the football field from 1pm. Children will be taking part in a series of “wacky”events such as three legged football dribble, a blindfolde­d penalty shootout, walk the plank and splat the rat. All primary school and preschool children are invited to take part. Secondary age pupils are welcome to come along and help at each activity.

If wet, a reduced version of this event will run in the village hall. Tea, coffee, sandwiches, cakes and biscuits will be served and there will be music courtesy of Dave and Julie Leckie.

In Alva meanwhile, the Cochrane Park is the venue for a Jubilee Fun Day from noon until 4pm.

Sunday is also lining up to be a busy day. Thornhill is holding its Gala and Jubilee celebratio­n from noon on the South Common.

Among the activities will be Picnic in the Park - bring your own picnic - plus kids fancy dress, a fun run, bouncy castles, a sandpit, pets’ corner, dog agility, tossing the sheaf, tug of war, face painting, fun stalls, Beat the Goalie, slip‘n’slide and lots more fun for the family.

Teas will be served in the community hall and the local scarecrow competitio­n will be running in the village.

In Fintry celebratio­ns are taking place from 11am until 4pm. In the Menzies Hall there will be local arts and crafts stalls, a Fintry Flower Show plant stall, Fintry Developmen­t Trust, and the local Guild will be serving teas and coffees and home baking.

Strathard Community Trust has organised free festivitie­s in Aberfoyle’s Memorial Hall where there will be food provided (bring your own bottle). More details on this at https:// FORMS.GLE/E17ATFGY3R­SD81FT8. Everyone is welcome to the community event.

Killearn meanwhile is hosting its‘big Jubilee Lunch’. Killearn Community Futures Company has been encouragin­g locally organised lunches or teas so streets can organise their own Big Jubilee Lunch celebratio­ns. Killearn Kirk and the Village Hall will have bookable tables in their grounds, so everyone can take the chance to celebrate from 1pm.
