Niall goes Forth with role
A young Clackmannanshire man has secured his dream job in river conservation with the Forth Rivers Trust after completing a year’s employment with them through a Clackmannanshire employment scheme.
Niall Provan, 23, joined the Trust in May 2021 through the Scottish Government’s Young Persons Guarantee Scheme managed and administered by Clackmannanshire Works - part of Clacksmannanshire Council’s Economic Development service.
The scheme funded a full-time, one year post which allowed Niall to continue learning skills in river management and wildlife conservation.
The Trust has now hired Niall on a new year-long contract to continue his efforts protecting wildlife and rivers around Clackmannanshire and the rest of the Forth.
During his time, Niall developed skills in river conservation and wildlife management and habitat monitoring along with supporting the delivery of projects which benefit wildlife such as Atlantic
Niall will now use the skills he has developed during his modern apprenticeship and employment with the Forth Rivers Trust to continue delivering projects along the hillfoots and other catchments nearby.
Niall said: “The Young Persons Guarantee Scheme has provided me with a great opportunity of fulltime employment in my industry following on from my modern apprenticeship. My first year at the Trust has been a brilliant experience and I’m really looking forward to working on new projects in the Forth catchment over the coming year.”
Alison Baker, Forth Rivers Trust director said: “The Young Person’s Guarantee Scheme has been a great success for the Trust, allowing us to employ someone local to the rivers we work on.
“Hiring Niall has provided the much-needed support for us to deliver vital projects around the Forth to help conserve nature during the current biodiversity crisis whilst helping a young person develop their skills and career in environmental conservation. We are delighted Niall accepted a new contract with the Trust to continue supporting our organisations goals for rivers around the Forth.”
