Train time disruption due to industrial action

-

Scotrail services are set for disruption due to industrial action early in the New Year.

The company have said it is only possible to run a limited service between Tuesday January 3 and Saturday January 7 while Network Rail Scotland signallers and maintenance staff are on strike.

The RMT union members are striking over pay and conditions.

January’s strike action by the RMT follows similar action over the Christmas period with last trains on Christmas Eve departing earlier than normal and no trains operating on Boxing Day.

Yesterday (Tuesday) services across the country started later than normal due to signal boxes opening at different times following the industrial action.

A Scotrail statement on their website pointed to disruption on the strike days of Tuesday January 3 and Wednesday January 4 as well as Friday January 6 and Saturday January 7.

However, a limited timetable will also be in operation on Thursday January 5.

The statement continued:“this is due to the closing and reopening of signal boxes at different times throughout the day.

“It is hoped that some additional routes can be added, but customers should check Journey Planner for details before they travel.

“As there will be very limited services running between January 3 to 7, please only travel if necessary.

“If you have to travel, you should expect disruption and plan ahead.

“There will also be some disruption on the day after (January 8).”

Scotrail advised passengers to consult train times on its Journey Planner and the Scotrail App in the coming days, adding:“please check train times for your entire journey, including the first or/and last train times, before you travel.”
