Snow lovers will not be pleased, but despite no lying snow on Christmas Day, Stirling city area officially had a white Christmas when a short spell of sleet fell in amongst a band of wet weather that crossed Stirling on Christmas evening.

The Met Office count sleet towards their definition of a white Christmas which means for the first time since 2010 we did have a white Christmas in Stirling.

It certainly was not ideal if you dream of a white Christmas but rules are rules and that few drops of sleet that fell in amongst the rain does count. Overall though last week was much milder after the recent cold spell, with a maximum temperature of 11.5C with rain recorded every day with nearly two inches of rain for the week. It was also blustery with the wind gusting to 35mph.

The final week of 2022 is set to be unsettled with wet weather on most days which will mostly fall as rain but temperatures could drop low enough at times to bring some sleet and perhaps wet snow to the area with the chance of some wintry showers over the New Year weekend.

Sunny spells will be few and far between this week and it will also be blustery at times.

Maximum temperatures will be around 7C while overnight lows could drop below freezing on a few nights.

Did you know? – The average temperature in Stirling last week was 6.0C which was 8.5C higher than it was the previous week during the freezing cold spell of weather.
