Andy and Jamie Murray couldn’t stop Scotland slipping to defeat at the Schroders Battle of the Brits last week.

The Dunblane brothers led the Scots side against England in Aberdeen as they crashed to a 8-4 defeat – despite a crowd-pleasing win for the duo.

Sir Andy and Jamie teamed up in the final doubles match of the exhibition tournament.

England’s Paul Jubb took the decisive points with a polished 6-2 6-2 victory over Aidan Mchugh, which meant that the Murray brothers could only restore some Scottish pride with their straight sets win over World doubles No 1 Neal Skupski and his Team England partner Dan Evans.

Team England’s overall win came in spite of missing doubles stalwart Joe Salisbury, who was feeling unwell.

Last Thursday’s evening session was a sell-out, with crowds flocking to the P&J Live to see the tennis showcase created by Jamie Murray, who is the tournament director as well as playing for Team Scotland.

The Wimbledon champs’ win in the final match was greeted with rapturous applause.

After the pair defeated Skupski and Evans, Sir Andy said: “We need to treat these moments like we might not have the opportunity again because we’re getting on a bit and you never know what’s around the corner.

“It was amazing, the whole two days. I’m very proud of Jamie for the event that he put on. There’s obviously a huge team behind the scenes helping to put on the event as well. It meant a lot to both of us that all of the players showed up and competed well and went after it and created a great event for everyone to watch.”

Jamie added: “It was awesome. We’d a great two days; three amazing sessions. It was so much fun to come and play in Scotland and to finish off the event with Andy was really special.

“It’s been a lot of work for two years. Everything was set up to go last year and we had to cancel at the last minute. We really appreciate all the guys making the effort to come and play and make it really special for us.”

The event was screened on BBC iplayer and the BBC Sport website and on Tennis Channel International.

The tournament also supported Aberdeen-based charity Maggie’s, which provides invaluable help, advice and support to cancer sufferers and their families.

Andy and Jamie represented Scotland alongside Jonny O’mara and Aidan Mchugh. Team England was made up of Dan Evans, Jack Draper, Joe Salisbury, Neal Skupski and Paul Jubb.
