Patient praise for staff after hospital care

-

Dear Editor,

On November 27 I was admitted to Forth Valley Royal Hospital and treated as an in patient until my discharge on December 22.

I am aware that every person who enters a hospital has a truly unique experience, this is only my experience.

Throughout my stay I received the best of treatment and care, and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the medical and nursing staff, all of whom contributed to my recovery displaying admirable professionalism, dedication, commitment, compassion and understanding.

Like most people I was aware of the media reports relating to Forth Valley Royal Hospital, including the Stirling Observer of 7 December 2022, as well as the various comments made by politicians. I did not recognise the hospital in those articles and comments as the same one as I was being treated as an in patient.

I understand that where people interact with people, things can always be improved, and Forth Valley Hospital is a big building full of people doing their best to help people.

On Friday 16 December 2022 when there was a sudden and heavy snowfall in the area I saw nightshift staff working extra hours looking after patients until their dayshift colleagues could battle through the elements and make their way to work.

What I did not see was any politician attending the hospital to see if they could help in any way until staff got to work, or any other meaningful contribution to the running of the hospital.

I suppose my point is that I would urge that politicians stop using NHS Scotland and NHS Forth Valley in particular as a means of scoring cheap political points from each other.

Instead of procrastinating and publicising that they have submitted yet another time consuming Freedom of Information query why don’t they work with other politicians and help the NHS through this period and thus do the job they were elected to do (and are paid to do), which is looking after their constituents’ interests.

My great grandson had a second fit and his mum and dad took him to Larbert hospital where they were told there were no doctors to see him.

He is just two years old! They had to hold him for five hours before he was seen.

Apparently heart attack patients had to wait for eight to nine hours! This really isn’t acceptable.

Isn’t it about time that the Health Secretary got sacked and this so called government started to get their priorities right instead of obsessing about an independence campaign which the country cannot afford?

From a furious great grandmother.

I would like to express my profound thanks to the many people who rushed to help when I tripped in Stirling city centre (while carrying an artificial Christmas tree!) late in the afternoon of Tuesday December 13.

I would particularly like to thank the lady and her son who showed immense kindness by helping me up and driving me (and said Christmas tree) to my destination. Thank you, too, to the wonderful staff at the Minor Injuries Clinic at Livilands for their excellent care in treating my injured wrist.
