Kai calls the shots in top performance

- STUART MCFARLANE

It was another standout display for on-loan winger Kai Fotheringham in Elgin on Friday evening – and he admits he’s relishing his time at the club.

The 19-year-old scored an excellent winner to take home a valuable three points on the road, while also adding another assist to his tally for the campaign after placing an excellent corner delivery on to the head of Paul Mclean for the Binos’ opener.

Fotheringham now has five goals and 11 assists in all competitions for Albion this year, with his short-term loan deal from the Terrors set to end on January 3 ahead of the crucial clash with Dumbarton.

The future for the promising winger is still up in the air over the coming weeks, but he remains focused on the task at hand and insisted Albion deserved their pre-christmas three points.

The Dundee United starlet said:“the pitch obviously wasn’t the best, but the way the boys dug in and got the two goals was great.

“It’s a bit controversial with the penalty but it feels like when they had 10 men, we were quite comfortable within the game and managed to see it out and got the three points which we’ve not had for a couple of weeks.

“That’s what I’ve been aiming to do since I got here – goals and assists – and I think it’s one of the things that I’ve improved on this season, so that’s good for myself.

“It’s the thing I enjoy doing the most is getting on the scoresheet so that’s pleasing for me to get another one.”

Fotheringham has enjoyed previous loan spells at Falkirk, Cove Rangers and Raith Rovers before his latest stint at the Binos but has expressed his satisfaction in recent weeks about becoming an integral part of Darren Young’s side as they push for promotion.

For now, the latest hurdle is the visit of Stenhousemuir to Forthbank on Saturday – with the winger laying out two assists in the sides’ last meeting at Ochilview in October.

Fotheringham added: “I’m really enjoying my football here, the boys have been brilliant.

“It’s such a close group and the way they have looked after me – even Kenny the physio and the kit man and everyone involved – has been great; you can see that it’s a family group here.”
