- CHRIS MARZELLA

The police investigation into the death of a woman in a suspected hit-and-run in Dunipace is continuing two weeks after she was killed.

April Mitchell, 53, was found on the A872, at Avonside Drive in Dunipace, at around 12.30am on Thursday, December 15.

Police Scotland this week said their probe into the shocking death is ongoing as they attempt to trace the driver responsible.

A spokesperson said: “Enquiries into the incident are continuing.”

Ms Mitchell, a pedestrian from the area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers revisited the scene overnight between Wednesday, December 21, and Thursday, December 22, as part of the investigation.

Earlier this month, Inspector Michelle Burns said: “Our efforts to establish what happened in this incident are ongoing.

“Our thoughts remain with April’s family at this difficult time and we are keeping them informed as our investigation continues

“I would urge anyone who was in the area between 11.30pm on Wednesday, December 14, and 1am on Thursday, December 15, to come forward if you haven’t already spoken to police.

“I would also take the opportunity to appeal directly to the driver involved to please come forward, identify yourself and speak to us.”

Family and friends took to social media to pay tribute.

Anne Mayhew Kelly posted: “I remember April from early teenage years.

“We would all meet on the bus as we headed into town at the weekends and she would come to Gargunnock on a Friday night. God love her, rest easy darlin.”

Sarranne Scott said: “This is so heartbreaking, hope the driver gets caught or does the right thing and comes forward, condolences to the family.”

Jean Rigby said: “April was my niece and I’d like to say thank you all for the condolence messages.

“I honestly don’t think the driver will own up, but that person has to live with that.”

Heather Russell posted: “Absolutely heartbreaking, especially the fact someone could be so cruel and heartless and just drive off. How would they feel if that was their mum stolen from them?

“You reap what you sow in life and for anyone to do this is vile and disgusting.

“I hope you’re caught very soon for what you did to this poor woman and family.

“May you RIP beautiful angel. Fly high as you can and shine bright.”
