Last week, we reported how a Stirling mum and her children were without heating when their boiler packed in during the recent cold spell.

Council tenant Laura Curley and her three children – 13-year-old Iona, Euan (12) and Erin (8) – did not have heating and hot water for three nights and two days due to a boiler problem at their Cornton home.

Tricia Mcgovern said:“my 94 year old dad waited 27 hours with a burst pipe while the water was pouring out of his kitchen ceiling .... Stirling Council should be ashamed of themselves. It’s a good job he has a family who paid for a plumber to fix it but I worry for people who don’t have family to help when the council don’t.”

Liz Mcdonald wrote:“nov last yr me and my partner tested positive for Covid and on that day our boiler broke down and due to us having Covid we were left 10 days without heating or hot water.”

Last week, we also reported how a cyclist left with agonising injuries after being struck by a car three months ago has urged the driver to come forward to give her closure on the ordeal.

Champion rider Christina Mackenzie was left lying on the road with a shattered pelvis after a car towing an agricultural trailer ploughed into her whilst she was on a training ride. The driver took off without stopping to help.

John Fraser commented:“can’t believe nobody knows that combination of ford ranger pickup and trailer. Can’t be to many like that out there… Hope the police narrow it down and get them”

We also told how thousands of gifts were donated as part of our annual Give a Gift appeal before being distributed to a host of local charities.

The response was overwhelming, with hundreds of gifts providing smiles to vulnerable children on Christmas Day.

Readers poured praise on those who generously donated, with Jean Pedder writing:“fantastic response despite the cost of living crisis.. superb.”

Kirsty Richardson wrote: “Fabulous . Well done.”

And John William Mcvicars stated: “Well done merry Christmas.”
