CENTENARY YEAR GETS OFF TO A PERFECT START
There was a good turn out on New Year’s Day to welcome in 2023 and kick off the centenary year at Dunblane New Golf Club.
Club captain Andrew Rettie welcomed the members and friends in the clubhouse before everyone then gathered on the first tee as junior captain for 2023, Ruairidh Scullion, raised the new Centenary Flag.
Club captain Andrew Rettie then opened the golf year with a splendid drive off the first tee followed by an equally good drive from vice captain for 2023 Janice Stewart.
Due to the weather conditions, it was not possible to follow normal tradition by playing 2/3 holes. However Janice’s grandchildren were sent to successfully retrieve her ball from the snow.
Once back in the clubhouse, soup and sandwiches were served up by the catering staff and enjoyed by all.
There then followed some musical entertainment provided by members. Dougal Thornton sang a few numbers whilst strumming his guitar followed by Daniel Thorpe showing some magical expertise on the fiddle.
The entertainment was concluded with a session by the Dunblane Sea Shanty Group. Thanks to all for an excellent effort.
The day’s events were then concluded with a firework display in front of the first tee – managed by Ian Campbell, Ian Barrowman and Tony Harrild.
Thanks are due to all involved in making the day such a success.
2023 promises to be a busy time at Dunblane New Golf Club. The golf season will officially tee off with Captain vs Vice Captain Opening Greensomes on Saturday, March 25. There will then be various events in the following months to celebrate the centenary year with a week of varying golf events from Friday, July 21, to Saturday,
July 29.
