Wild start to 2023 with winds reaching 40mph

-

It’s been an unsettled start to 2023 with the first two weeks of the year bringing a wet and windy theme.

Last week in Stirling, we recorded 4.5 inches of rainfall after a number of very wet days which was accompanied by some gusty winds of nearly 40mph on several days.

With the wind and the rain comes lots of cloud so the temperature stayed above freezing all week with most days reaching around 8C.

The maximum daily rainfall was 34.29mm on Saturday, January 14, for a weekly total of 113.53mm.

After the last few wet and windy weeks, this coming week is thankfully set to be more settled with some sunshine but colder temperatures.

It won’t be until later in the week and into the weekend when cloud will increase with some wet and possibly a few wintry showers for a time. But until then for the best part of the week it will be dry with some sunny intervals.

Although the odd light wintry flurry cannot be ruled out. Daytime temperatures will be a chilly 3C at best while overnight frosts will return.

Temperatures will recover later in the week but a few wintry showers are possible towards the end of the week as some wet weather moves into the area which will eventually turn to rain.

Wind will generally be light increasing slightly as it turns more unsettled later in the week.

As mentioned above it has been a wet start to 2023 in Stirling and during the first two weeks of the new year we have recorded 170mm of rainfall, while during the whole month of January 2022 only 62mm of rain fell.
