Dunblane man pens new novel

Thriller is writer’s 13th book

- CHRIS MARZELLA

A retired Dunblane doctor this week marked the publication of his fourth novel.

Dr Colin Barron, 66 has published his thirteenth book – his fourth novel – titled ‘Four Minutes to Zero’.

The action-packed thriller is a sequel to his previous book, the award-winning ‘24 Hours to Doomsday,’ which was released last year, and follows the continuing adventures of former SAS Sergeant Rick Fernscale as he battles a globalist terrorist organisation.

Dr Barron’s latest novel opens with Rick living in Cyprus with his new wife Maria, using false identities provided by MI6.

Unfortunately the terrorists discover his whereabouts and attack his villa.

They kidnap Maria and force Rick to carry out a dangerous mission.

Rick then discovers that the terrorists plan to massively depopulate the Earth and introduce a New World Order in which the survivors live a miserable impoverished existence.

Rick becomes involved in a race against time to rescue his wife and defeat the conspirators’ plans.

Dr Barron this week said: “My new book is an emotional rollercoaster ride full of twists and turns, suspense and blistering action.

“I keep the reader in suspense about whether Rick is going to succeed or fail or even whether he is going to survive.”

Dr Barron graduated in medicine from Glasgow University in 1979 and worked as an ophthalmologist for a few years before setting up Ashlea Nursing Home, in Callander, with his first wife in 1985.

After the sale of Ashlea to new owners in 1999, Colin became a hypnotherapist and TFT practitioner, working from home and at the Nuffield Hospital in Glasgow.

His second wife Vivien, 66, worked as a learning support teacher at Stirling High School until May 2011 when she suffered a massive stroke and blindness caused by a previously undiagnosed heart tumour.

Colin then suffered a massive heart attack in 2015 and spent four months in hospital.

“My main role in life is being my wife’s carer as she is severely disabled, has little speech and cannot do much for herself,” Dr Barron added.

“So my writing is usually done very early in the morning before I give Vivien her breakfast.”

He intends to write further books, possibly including more Rick Fernscale adventures which he describes as “action packed techno-thrillers”.

‘Four Minutes to Zero’ is available from Amazon.
