Anglers braving the weather get their reward
It was a cold week with some very heavy rain and some breezy spells at Swanswater Fishery.
Despite the weather conditions, the anglers who braved the cold were usually well rewarded and there were some excellent bags in the catch returns.
The big fish are still active despite the water temperature sitting around 4C and the water clarity remains very good even after the heavy rain on Thursday.
On the main pond, the fish were mostly to be found around the Island, behind the island, in the channel and at the roadside.
Most successful fly patterns included Ally Mccoist, Cat’s Whisker, Egg, Dancer, Damsel, Cormorant, Yellow Nymph and Buzzer. The few bait anglers who were out were mostly using power bait.
The fishery is open from 8am to 4pm except on Thursday when we close at 2.30pm. Please check our Facebook page or directly with the Fishery for any unexpected closures before travelling, particularly in bad weather.
Those doing well on the fly ponds included: James Petrie 3 for 16lb 12oz including 9lb 12oz Rainbow; David Hunter 6lb Rainbow; Danny Doherty 5 for 15lb including a Gold, plus 1 C&R; Calen Mclachlan 4 for 13lb 8oz, plus 1 C&R; Ricky Goodwin 4 for 10lb, plus 6 C&R; Willie Brownlie 3 for 10lb 8oz; Robert Smith 3 for 10lb; John Jeffrey 3 for 9lb; Carter Laird 3 for 9lb; Mark Robertson 3 for 7lb 12oz from the Meadow Pond; Jamie Mccleary 3 for 7lb 8oz; Barry Lee 2 for 6lb 4oz; Ricky Taylor 2 for 5lb 8oz including a Tiger, plus 1 C&R; Nan Morrison 2 for 5lb 8oz; Jim Spiers 2 for 5lb 8oz from the Meadow Pond; Ben Oliver, in two visits at the weekend, caught and released 23; Rosinski caught and released 12 including a big Brown and a big Rainbow; Stuart Riley caught and released 7; Tyler Howells caught and released 7; Chris Harris caught and released 4; Gordon Mcconnachie caught and released 3.
Only a few anglers fished the Millpond this week. Best bags were: Scott Robertson 4 for 9lb; Neil Handyside 2 for 5lb; Doug Shepherd 1 for 2lb 8oz; Peter Young 1 for 2lb 8oz.
