Cultural celebrations at school
On Saturday, February 4, Fairview International School, Bridge of Allan, is welcoming the local community on campus to bring in the Lunar New Year.
The event, which is free to attend, will feature a host of Chinese New Year celebrations, including a traditional lion dance, Chinese calligraphy workshops and Chinese food and drink stalls selling bubble tea and egg waffles.
Open to everyone, the event will take place on campus in the school’s Cameron Hall building, showcasing the best of Chinese culture and traditions and celebrating the school’s international ties and community spirit.
Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum will be in attendance, displaying a selection of objects from
China, including ceramics, jewellery, and fans.
Other businesses attending include Calligraphy AK, Stirling’s Chicken Union, Mckenna Therapy offering sports therapy and massage and Zodo Designs selling children’s clothing.
In additional to the New
Year celebrations, the event will offer an opportunity for prospective families and students to get a first glimpse into the newly-refurbished student hub in the main school building.
B-listed and over 100 years old, the neo-jacobean mansion house dates back to 1868 and was formerly utilised by Beaconhurst school in 1919. Fairview has lovingly restored the building, bringing it into the 20th century whilst retaining all its original features.
The new hub has been designed to provide Diploma Programme (DP) students, aged 16-18, with a space to work and socialise.
Featuring large dual-aspect event rooms, an open plan kitchen-diner and lounge with TV, a separate study area, and a newly refurbished library. Fairview’s DP Hub was created to encourage senior students to practice independence in preparation for their next steps in life after school.
Following an outdoor performance, on the day of the event at 12.30pm, traditional lion dancers will open the DP Hub with a ceremonial dance to bless the building.
Formally recognised as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World school after receiving official certification for the delivery of its Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Primary Years Programme (PYP), Fairview will become the first school in Scotland to offer an uninterrupted continuum of IB learning upon anticipated authorisation for the DP and plans to begin delivering the programme to students at the beginning of the 2023/24 academic year.
