Fast food chain donates £20k to foodbank
Foodbank Start Up Stirling has £20,000 in the bag thanks to a fast food chain.
Led by franchisee Elliot Jardine, the three Mcdonald’s restaurants in Stirling, made the significant contribution to the charity recently.
The funds will go directly towards relieving the impact of poverty on local people by providing household essentials and food – especially for those impacted by age, disability, special needs, homelessness, domestic abuse and unemployment.
The donation was made possible by the recently launched Mcdonald’s in the Community Foundation’, set up by 16 Scottish Mcdonald’s Franchisees, and the 20 Mcdonald’s-owned restaurants in Scotland. The foundation provides a central hub to help distribute funds, raised by the 10p carrier bag charge, to different charities and organisations across Scotland.
Mcdonald’s franchisee Elliot Jardine said:“supporting our local community is of upmost importance to my team and me, which is why I was so pleased to see the Mcdonald’s in the Community Foundation officially launch this year.
“It means that each restaurant group can make meaningful contributions to charities in the communities that we operate in.
“The Start Up Stirling food bank is a fantastic organisation and proves vital to people in Stirling – especially at a time where many people are struggling with the cost of living. I’m so proud to be able to help keep its great work going with this donation.”
Before 2022, the proceeds from the 10p carrier bag charge across Scotland Mcdonald’s restaurants, were donated to Ronald Mcdonald House Charities UK. Donations totalled £3.9m by the end of 2021 and went towards building the brand new RMHC House in Edinburgh.
