MSP’S husband will stand in by-election

-

The husband of Stirling’s MSP has been announced as the SNP candidate for the Dunblane and Bridge of Allan ward by-election in March.

Dunblane resident Ahsan Khan lives in Dunblane with wife Evelyn, a former Stirling councillor who was elected MSP for Stirling last year. The couple also have a child who attends school in the area.

The by-election, due to take place on March 16, was caused by the sudden death of long-standing and popular councillor Graham Houston in December.

A former local government chief officer, Ahsan currently serves as a member of the First Tier Housing Tribunal for Scotland, and lectures in housing law and finance. His first degree is in political science, and he holds three post graduate qualifications in information technology, housing and law.

Alongside family and politics, Ahsan’s other passion is football. He has a season ticket at Tannadice Park in the city of his birth and has been involved with the Dunblane Soccer Club for several years.

Ahsan said this week: “this is a by-election that no-one wanted.

“Graham Houston served our community with great distinction for 15 years, including five as council leader.

“I am sure my qualifications, knowledge and experience will help me to get things done for local people, and so build on Graham’s legacy.

“I have a wide range of interests including education, protecting the environment, and improving public transport, but housing is my profession. I know that residents’ housing issues can form a significant part of a councillor’s workload. If elected I am sure that my expertise can help local residents benefit from national policies.”
