A man has tragically died after suffering a horror fall on a mountainside near Crianlarich at the weekend.

A frantic rescue mission was sparked following reports that the 33-year-old had fallen on Ben More on Saturday morning.

Police Scotland received a call at around 11.15am.

They then drafted in the help of volunteers from Killin Mountain Rescue Team (Killin MRT).

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services, including mountain rescue were dispatched, however, the 33-year-old man succumbed to his injuries. His next of kin has been informed.”

Killin MRT volunteers were taking part in a vital training exercise on Ben More when they received the call-out.

They deployed immediately and began searching for the walker. A spokesperson said:

“We requested assistance from Maritime and Coastguard Agency who despatched Rescue 199 from Prestwick.

“As team members were searching, the crew of Rescue 199 began assisting with transporting team members and equipment as far up the hill as they could given the weather conditions and cloud level.

“The team located the casualty and began administering first aid for what was serious injuries. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of our members on scene, the casualty sadly was pronounced dead on the hill. The team thereafter evacuated the casualty off the hill.

“Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the individual and we offer them our sincerest condolences. Equally our thoughts are with the team members who assisted with this tragic incident.”
