Pupil’s scrunchie effort for charity

-

A Bridge of Allan school pupil is supporting a local animal charity by selling unique tartan scrunchies.

Bella Gemmell, who attends the Fairview International School in the town, has been making the hair products in the school’s own tartan and selling them to pupils and staff.

The proceeds of the sales will be donated to Reanimate, which helps to support people and animals to recover from trauma together, offering a safe space to provide emotional relief and work.

The enterprise is off to a strong start and is currently selling the scrunchies faster than she is able to make them and made the announcement to parents about the scrunchies at a Lunar New Year assembly.

Bella said:“i first had the idea to make the scrunchies when my mum had the school tartan material and was teaching me how to sew.

“I wanted to raise money for a charity that is close to my heart, I love horses and have been riding since I was a little girl. I chose Reanimate as my charity and feel so pleased that I can help raise money for them.

I feel really happy that all my hard work has paid off and I’m proud to see my scrunchies worn around the school. It was amazing to see that after my announcement at the Lunar New Year Assembly, I sold out of scrunchies instantly.”

The school’s headteacher, David Hicks, said:“we’re very proud of Bella here at Fairview and admire her initiative and efforts in supporting such a wonderful local charity.

“We are delighted to see our students follow their passions while also gaining some fantastic practical life skills.

“Our teachers and curriculum help inspire students to take responsibility for their own learning and we are thrilled to see this ethos materialise into wonderful achievements such as this.”
