Mountaineer Alex to speak of adventures

-

Athlete Alex Moran is the speaker at the latest Royal Scottish Geographical Society event in Stirling.

The talk, on Wednesday February 15 , is part of the society’s Inspiring People talks programme.

In August 2021, Alex Moran and Mike Coppock completed the first ever Island Munros Triathlon, in 32 hours and 22 minutes, scaling 13 Munros with 6,461m of ascent, and covering 309km of distance between them.

The athletes dreamt up this epic and ingenious adventure with the goal of raising £10,000 for the Martin Moran Foundation.

Never before had all 13 of the Scottish island Munros been attempted in a single non-stop push, by running, cycling and swimming through the dramatic landscape of the Northwest Highlands.

Alex said:“as a geography teacher, mountain instructor and general lover of the natural world I am very honoured to be speaking at the RSGS lecture series.

“I can’t wait to share our Island

Munros adventure across the dramatic landscape of the North West coast with you all.”

RSGS chief executive Mike Robinson said:“it will be fascinating to hear from Alex about his ground-breaking achievement to climb all 13 island munros consecutively, an undertaking which is sure to have its fair share of adventures and anecdotes, especially coming from Alex as a professional mountaineering and climbing Instructor.

“His talk will definitely be one worth coming out to hear.”

RSGS Inspiring People talks are open to all: tickets for face-to-face talks are free for RSGS members, students and under 18s and £10 for general admission.

Tickets are available to book online in advance by visiting rsgs. org/events
