Winputs ‘Burnin seventh heaven

BANNOCKBURN AFC ........ 2 ST PATS .................................. 1

Bannockburn made it a magnificent seven–from– seven in this year’s league campaign at home to St Pats on Saturday.

In blustery conditions, ’Burn had the wind in their sails from the off, when a long ball from Feaks was collected by Millar who out-muscled the centre half, and lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to open the scoring.

The frantic start to the game kept the large crowd entertained and St Pats showed their threat, with the front three asking questions of the ’Burn back line.

They managed to get level when the winger jinked passed Walker and Todd before firing a low shot past Gordon in goal to level.

The remainder of the first half was fairly even with ’Burn being reduced to long efforts from Mclellan and Henderson.

After the break, the visitors used the wind to their advantage and came close to taking the lead but were denied by the woodwork and an in-form Gordon in goal who dealt with some long range efforts and set pieces.

Changes were made by both teams looking for the winner and it was Burn’s substitutes who made the difference with five minutes to go when Mcgowan linked up with Walker down the right, the measured cross was met flush by Fox from six yards, his header flew past the keeper and sent the ’Burn touchline into raptures.

St Pats tried to force an equaliser but the home side dealt well with the aerial bombardment and were relived to see a last minute header skim the top of the bar.

Bannockburn are at home this weekend to Oban in round two of the Cinema cup.
